Student Support
At St. Fergal’s College, we place a strong emphasis on student care and wellbeing. We recognise that every student is unique, and we are committed to providing the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.
Our Care Team, which includes teachers, the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), and pastoral staff, works together to provide emotional, social, and practical support. The team ensures that students feel safe, valued, and encouraged to reach their potential, while also helping them navigate any challenges that may arise during their school years.
Year Heads play an important role in this structure by taking a hands-on approach with each year group. They build strong relationships with students and families, oversee student wellbeing, and monitor progress and development. This close connection helps to create a supportive environment where students feel cared for and understood.
We are also committed to supporting students for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL). Our staff ensure these students are welcomed, integrated into the school community, and given the guidance and resources they need to settle in and succeed.
In addition, daily Tutor Time provides students with consistency and care each school day. Tutors act as the first point of contact for their groups, sharing important information, monitoring attendance, and supporting students in their overall well-being. This daily routine helps to build strong, positive relationships and ensures that every student is known, valued, and supported.
Student support at St. Fergal’s College is built on collaboration between staff, parents, and students, with the shared goal of creating a caring, inclusive, and positive school experience for all.
Wellbeing
At St. Fergal’s College, we place great importance on equipping students with the skills they need to succeed both in school and in life. Throughout the year, we provide study skills and motivational workshops for examination classes, second year and Senior Cycle students, helping them to prepare effectively for state exams, manage stress, and stay focused on their goals. Our First Year students take part in transition/resilience workshops, designed to support them as they settle into post-primary school, build confidence, and develop positive coping strategies. In addition, a Be Kind (Bi Cineáltas) presentation is delivered to every year group, reinforcing our commitment to respect, kindness, and inclusion across the school community. These workshops and initiatives are an important part of our wellbeing programme, ensuring that students are supported at key stages of their school journey.
