Guidance
The Guidance Counsellor plays a vital role in supporting the personal, educational, and career development of all students at St. Fergal’s College. Working closely with staff, parents, and outside agencies where appropriate, the Guidance Counsellor helps ensure that every student is supported throughout their school journey.
Key Areas of the Guidance Programme include:
- Personal Guidance: Offering one-to-one support for students experiencing personal, social, or emotional difficulties, and providing a safe, confidential space to talk.
- Educational Guidance: Assisting students with subject choices, study skills, exam preparation, and planning for successful progression through school.
- Career Guidance: Supporting students in exploring future pathways, including Further Education, Higher Education, apprenticeships, and employment. This includes advice on CAO applications, UCAS, PLCs, scholarships, and alternative routes.
The Guidance Counsellor also works proactively with year groups through workshops, classroom guidance, and whole-school wellbeing initiatives. By offering both individual and group support, the Guidance service aims to help students make informed choices, overcome challenges, and achieve their full potential.
At St. Fergal’s College, we see guidance as a shared responsibility between school and home, with the Guidance Counsellor acting as a key support for students as they prepare for life beyond school.
