Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme LCVP
The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) is now an integrated, two-year Senior Cycle pathway designed to strengthen students’ preparation for further education, training, and the world of work. It builds on the academic foundations of the traditional Leaving Certificate while placing greater emphasis on enterprise, career exploration, digital skills, and real-world learning experiences.
While students continue to study their chosen Leaving Certificate subjects, LCVP offers a more applied approach to learning. The updated programme now places a stronger focus on:
- Career planning, employability skills, and future-focused learning.
- Enterprise and innovation, including problem-solving and project-based tasks.
- Digital literacy and communication, with an emphasis on creating and presenting digital work.
- Active engagement with community, business, and further-education pathways.
As part of the updated structure, students complete two redesigned Link Modules, which reflect current workplace expectations and evolving career landscapes:
Preparation for the World of Work
Students explore careers, develop job-seeking skills, complete work experience or work shadowing, and build confidence in planning their future educational and career routes.
Enterprise & Innovation
Students learn about entrepreneurship, teamwork, idea generation, project development, and how businesses operate. They engage in enterprise tasks, community involvement, and reflective learning.
These modules enable students to take part in meaningful learning opportunities such as:
- Work experience or work shadowing
- Career investigations and pathway planning
- Enterprise challenges and project work
- Engagement with local businesses and community organisations
- Digital portfolio creation and reflection
The updated LCVP aims to ensure students leave school not only with strong academic foundations, but also with the practical skills, adaptability, and confidence needed for life beyond secondary school.
